Mixed Martial Arts
(MMA)
What is Mixed Martial Arts?
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that integrates both standing and groundwork technique from a range of striking- and grappling-based disciplines
The term “mixed martial arts” was first documented in 1993 during a critic’s review of UFC 1, and has since been popularized as well as associated with the Ultimate Fighting Championship
At its core, MMA typically consists of techniques from karate, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and more
How MMA Can Help YOU
With an MMA base, you are in an optimal position to take control over the direction of a combat situation, influencing your opponent’s decisions, and allowing you to choose where the fight takes place. But that’s not the only reason!
Self-Defense:
MMA combines techniques from karate, boxing, jiu jitsu, and more to give you the tools you need to defend yourself across a variety of dangerous situations
Training MMA builds your confidence as much as it develops your technique to help you protect yourself against larger, untrained attackers
Fitness:
MMA is a great way to challenge your body
It provides an opportunity to push yourself physically and mentally to take your fitness to the next level
MMA classes provide a complete, total body workout, training every aspect of fitness
Training can develop strength and power; build endurance; improve cardiovascular health; increase mobility and flexibility; and hone your stability, balance, and coordination
MMA is a different, more exciting, and fun approach to weight loss
Health & Well-Being:
MMA emphasizes the mind-body connection, helping to strengthen discipline, focus, self-awareness, body control, and concentration
Training increases mental well-being by offering a healthy way to relieve stress and anxiety as well as burn off aggression or other negative emotions
MMA increases your self-confidence, which carries over into every area of life
Mixed martial arts focuses on the concurrent growth of striking and grappling techniques and should be perceived as the continuous development of each discipline over time
Our ultimate goal is help create a well-rounded martial artist who is proficient in both the striking and grappling arts
Beginners interested in MMA should expose themselves to all the classes we have to offer, and as you become more proficient in your skills and abilities, you can participate in open mat training, advanced striking classes, and enter into local amateur competitions (provided that is something you are interested in)
One-on-one sessions with a coach are also a great opportunity to practice integrating techniques and building up your confidence
